Gary L. Schine
Gary has been involved in mergers and acquisitions since 1990. He holds both a master's degree and an MBA in small business management. Along with Eugene Merfeld, Gary is the co-author of How You Can Buy a Business Without Overpaying, and is the author of How Too Sell Your Business For More Money and How To Avoid 101 Small Business Mistakes (All by Consultant Press, 1991).
Eugene Merfeld
Gene, an MIT trained engineer by background, has been involved in buying and selling small businesses for thirty years. Over the years, Gene has owned over twenty-five different businesses including hotels, clothing stores, computer schools, and one of the largest ticket agencies in Boston, MA. Gene is co-author of How You Can Buy a Business Without Overpaying (Consultant Press, 1991), considered by many to be the leading book on the subject.
Samuel R. Kostick
As a corporate executive, Sam has managed divisions of a diverse number of major corporations, including Loft Candy, CBS, McCrory Corporation and Gulf & Western. His consulting clients have included such companies as Xerox and W.R. Grace. He has started and run a number of businesses including Dorison House Publishers, a highly innovative publishing and distribution company. Sam holds an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. He has primary responsibility for PEO mergers and acquisitions.
Wylie S. Elson
Wylie earned his MD from the University of New Mexico and his BS in Business Administration from the University of Vermont. Prior to joining Merfeld and Schine, Wylie held various positions including Account Executive for Hewlett-Packard in their Commercial Computing Division, Account Executive with New Science Associates (an AI consulting firm), Development Manager for the Lama Foundation (a 501(c)3 educational institution and retreat center) and house staff physician at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
A friend and colleague of Gene Merfeld's for over 20 years, Wylie has been involved in mergers & acquisitions since 2002 and is our western states representative.
David T. Annis
David Annis holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BS from Cornell University. In addition to regular brokerage activities David specializes in identifying strategic acquisitions for private equity groups. Before joining Merfeld & Schine, David acted as principal in both the acquisition and sale of businesses. David has worked in fields as diverse as molecular cardiology, information technology management, software and website development, and legal administration.
Karen Stern
Karen graduated from Columbia University and earned her MBA degree at the University of Washington. Before joining Merfeld and Schine she was a professor of marketing at the University of Rhode Island and a director of marketing for an education financing company.
